Product Catalog
The product catalog is the foundation of the CPQ module. It stores all of your products and services with their pricing, categories, and configuration options so you can quickly add them to quotes.
Adding Products
- Navigate to CPQ > Products
- Click New Product
- Enter the product name, description, and SKU (optional)
- Set the pricing type and base price
- Assign a category and any relevant tags
- Click Save
Each product can include a detailed description that appears on quotes, helping recipients understand exactly what they're purchasing.
Product Types
Products support three pricing types to match how you charge:
- One-time — A single charge (e.g., setup fees, hardware, project-based work)
- Recurring — Billed on a regular schedule such as monthly, quarterly, or annually (e.g., SaaS subscriptions, retainers)
- Usage-based — Priced per unit of consumption (e.g., API calls, storage, hours billed)
The pricing type determines how the line item total is calculated and displayed on quotes. Recurring items show the billing frequency alongside the price.
Categories and Subcategories
Organize your catalog with categories to keep products easy to find when building quotes:
- Create top-level categories like "Software", "Services", "Hardware"
- Add subcategories for finer grouping (e.g., "Software > Integrations")
- Filter by category when searching the catalog in the quote builder
Categories are managed in CPQ > Products > Categories.
Tiered and Volume Pricing
For products where the unit price changes based on quantity, configure tiered or volume pricing:
- Tiered pricing — Each tier has its own unit price. For example: 1-10 units at $50, 11-50 units at $40, 51+ units at $30. Each tier is charged at its own rate.
- Volume pricing — The total quantity determines the unit price for all units. For example: if 25 units are ordered and the 11-50 tier is $40, all 25 units are priced at $40.
Set up pricing tiers in the product's Pricing tab. The quote builder automatically calculates the correct total based on the quantity entered.
Product Bundles
Bundles let you group multiple products into a single sellable package, often at a discounted price:
- Navigate to CPQ > Products and click New Bundle
- Give the bundle a name and description
- Add component products and set their default quantities
- Set the bundle price — either a fixed price or a percentage discount on the combined component prices
- When added to a quote, the bundle appears as a single line item with an expandable breakdown of its components
Managing Active and Archived Products
Products have two states:
- Active — Available in the catalog and can be added to new quotes
- Archived — Hidden from the catalog but still visible on existing quotes that reference them
To archive a product, open it and click Archive. Archived products can be restored at any time from the Archived filter in the product list. Archiving is non-destructive — it never affects historical quotes.
