Custom Fields

Custom fields let you add structured data to tasks, projects, and candidates beyond the built-in fields. Define fields once in Settings and they appear everywhere that entity type is used.

Supported Entity Types

  • Tasks — Fields appear in the task detail panel and list view columns
  • Projects — Fields appear in the roadmap item drawer (Edit Item)
  • Candidates — Fields appear in the candidate detail drawer in Hiring

Field Types

TypeDescriptionExample
TextFree-form text inputInternal notes, reference IDs
NumberNumeric value with optional formatting (currency, percentage, decimal places)Story points, budget, completion %

CheckboxTrue/false toggleApproved, requires review

FormulaComputed value from an expression (SUM, IF, CONCAT, etc.)Weighted score, calculated deadline

Creating Custom Fields

  1. Go to Settings → Custom Fields.
  2. Select the tab for the entity type: Task Fields, Project Fields, or Candidate Fields.
  3. Click Add Field.
  4. Enter a name and optional description (help text shown to users).
  5. Choose the field type.
  6. For Select and Multi-select fields, add your options. Each option can have a color for visual distinction.
  7. For Number fields, optionally choose a format: plain number, currency ($), percentage (%), or set decimal places.
  8. For Formula fields, enter an expression. Supported functions include SUM, IF, CONCAT, ABS, ROUND, and more.
  9. Click Save.

Using Custom Fields

Once defined, custom fields appear automatically:

  • Task detail panel — Below the built-in fields when viewing/editing a task
  • Tracker list view — As additional columns
  • Board cards — Custom field values shown on cards
  • Roadmap item drawer — In the Custom Fields section of the edit drawer
  • Candidate detail drawer — Below the built-in candidate fields

Click on any custom field value to edit it inline. Changes are saved automatically.

Number Formatting

Number fields support several display formats:

  • Plain — Raw number (e.g. 42)
  • Currency — Prefixed with $ (e.g. $1,250.00)
  • Percentage — Suffixed with % (e.g. 85%)
  • Decimal places — Control how many decimal places are shown

Formula Fields

Formula fields compute a value from an expression. Expressions can reference other custom field values and use built-in functions:

  • SUM(a, b, c) — Add values
  • IF(condition, then, else) — Conditional logic
  • CONCAT(a, b) — Join text
  • ABS(x), ROUND(x, decimals), MIN(), MAX()

Formula results are read-only and recalculated when referenced fields change.

Managing Fields

  • Reorder — Use the up/down arrows to change field display order
  • Edit — Click the pencil icon to modify name, description, or options
  • Delete — Click the trash icon to remove a field and all its values
  • Required — Mark a field as required (users must fill it in)

Only team admins can create, edit, or delete custom field definitions. Any team member can set values on fields.

API Access

Custom fields are available through the REST API (v1). Field values are included in task, project, and candidate responses, and can be set when creating or updating records. See the API docs for details.
