Org Chart

The Org Chart in Trust & Safety lets you build and visualize your team's organizational hierarchy. Set reporting relationships, manage titles, and add people who aren't Fishladder users (e.g. executives or external stakeholders).

Getting Started

  1. Switch to Trust & Safety using the app switcher
  2. Click Org Chart in the sidebar
  3. All active team members appear automatically
  4. Click any person to set their manager and add titles

Views

Toggle between two views using the buttons in the top-right corner:

  • Tree view — Top-down hierarchy with visual connector lines. Expands the first two levels by default.
  • List view — Indented list with expand/collapse. Shows department badges and report counts inline.

Adding People

Click Add Member to choose from three options:

  • Existing team member — All active Fishladder users already appear on the chart. Use this to browse who's in the system.
  • Invite new team member — Send an email invitation. The person will appear once they accept and join the team.
  • Add non-user member — Add someone who doesn't need a Fishladder account (e.g. a CEO or board member). These appear with an orange "Ext" badge and can be edited or removed.

Setting Reporting Relationships

  1. Click a person on the chart to open their detail panel
  2. Under Reports to, select their manager from the dropdown
  3. Click the checkmark to save
  4. To remove a relationship, set it to "No manager (root)"

Circular references are prevented — you cannot set someone as their own manager or create loops (e.g. A reports to B reports to A).

Managing Titles

Each person can have multiple titles. In the detail panel:

  • Inherited titles — If a team member has a job title set in Team Settings, it automatically appears with a blue "Inherited" badge. Editing it here updates the title in Settings.
  • Add titles — Type a title and press Enter or click +
  • Edit — Click any title text to edit it inline
  • Set primary — Click the star icon to make a title the primary (shown on the chart)
  • Hide — Click the eye icon to hide a title from the org chart output without deleting it
  • Delete — Click the trash icon to permanently remove a title

External Members

Non-user members (orange badge) can have their name, email, department, and titles edited directly from the detail panel. Click Remove to delete them from the org chart entirely. They can also be set as managers for other members.

Company Name

If you've set a company name in Settings > Team > Company, it appears above the "Org Chart" heading for context.
