Linear Integration Guide

Fishladder's Linear integration provides a two-way sync for projects, initiatives, and cycles. This guide covers how the integration works in detail.

What Gets Synced

  • Projects — all non-archived projects, excluding cancelled and deleted ones. Issue status breakdowns are included.
  • Initiatives — all initiatives and their child project relationships.
  • Cycles — active cycles across all teams, excluding those that ended more than 14 days ago.

Sync Direction

Syncing pulls data from Linear into Fishladder. Changes you make in Fishladder (title, description, status, dates) are pushed back to Linear via the edit drawer or when committing planning dates.

How Syncing Works

  1. Press R or click the sync button in the toolbar.
  2. Fishladder sends parallel GraphQL queries for projects, initiatives, and cycles.
  3. Results are merged with your local kanban assignments and planning dates.
  4. Deduplication ensures projects that appear under initiatives are not shown twice.

Kanban Assignments

When you place a project in a specific quarter column or theme row on the kanban board, that assignment is stored in Fishladder's database. These assignments survive re-syncs — your board layout is preserved even as data is refreshed from Linear.

Token Management

OAuth tokens are stored securely on the server. Fishladder automatically refreshes expired tokens using a locking mechanism to prevent concurrent refresh attempts. If a token cannot be refreshed, you will be prompted to reconnect.
