Timeline View

The timeline view presents your roadmap as a horizontal Gantt-style chart. Each project appears as a bar spanning from its start date to its target date. Press T or use the view switcher in the toolbar to switch to the timeline.

Layout

  • Left panel: project and initiative names, organized by theme row.
  • Right panel: scrollable grid showing bars across a date axis.
  • Scroll both panels together vertically. The date axis scrolls independently.

Zoom Levels

Use the zoom control in the toolbar to switch between three levels:

  • Quarters — high-level overview spanning ~18 months.
  • Months — month-level detail.
  • Weeks — most granular, useful for near-term planning.

Drag and Resize

  • Drag a bar to move the entire project to a new date range. The bar snaps to month boundaries.
  • Drag the left edge to change the start date.
  • Drag the right edge to change the target date.

Dragging creates planning dates — local overrides that are not pushed to Linear until you explicitly commit them.

Initiatives

Initiatives appear as parent rows. Click the chevron to expand or collapse their child projects. An initiative's bar automatically spans from its earliest child start to its latest child end.

Dependencies

If your projects have blocking relationships in Linear, dependency arrows are drawn between the relevant bars on the timeline. See the Project Dependencies article for details.
